Low Dose Scans could Lower Death Rates

The American Cancer Society says that low dose CT scans of former and current smokers could prevent an estimated 12,000 lung cancer deaths every year.

They analyzed data from a national trial and found smokers who got the scan and discovered they had cancer were better able to treat it early.

However, all doctors don't agree with the low dose scans.  The scans have a high rate of false positives, and they're expensive.

43 million Americans are current smokers.
