JACKSON, Miss. – “I heard like a blood curdling scream. When I ran out I saw the dog on top of my daughter first thing I react, I jumped on the dog to pull him off. It didn't work.” Javanda Patton says she struggled to pull the pit bull, named Deuce, off of her 12-year-old daughter Kiya West. Now at Blair E. Batson Hospital, Kiya is recovering from extensive bite wounds. “It punctured, gave her like a golf ball size hole in her inner thigh and on the side thigh. She also was punctured in the stomach and in the chest.”
We're told Kiya is sore from the attack and will have a surgery at the end of the week. “We are just going to take it day by day and see what's going to happen at the end of the week. Hopefully I hear some good news.”
As for Deuce, he's currently being quarantined. “They just want to test it for rabies and everything, make sure the dog hasn't given my daughter any kind of infection.”
According to Jackson Police Animal Control officials, pending investigation results will determine whether or not Deuce will be euthanized.
