About Heal the Hood at Christmas Project 2013

Purpose: The purpose of this initiative is to bring holiday cheer to the most resilient families in the Jackson, Mississippi area by providing gifts for members of the household. We will also identify and meet any special needs that the families may have that have not been reached throughout the year.

History of Heal the Hood at Christmas: This is the 8th year that David Banner’s Heal the Hood organization has gifted Jackson families at Christmas time. The initiative evolved out of Banner’s personal ritual of giving to less fortunate families and those impacted by Hurricane Katrina during the holiday season.

Families: Approximately 15 families nominated by HTH partners benefit from the “Heal the Hood at Christmas” project. Heal The Hood at Christmas partnering organizations are: The Boys and Girls Club; K.I.N.G.S Leadership Institute; Operation Shoestring; Sisters With a Throttle and WJMI 99Jamz. Each partner nominates families living under improvised circumstances that need help providing for their families during the holiday season to Heal The Hood, Inc. This year, with the help of all of our wonderful partners, the HTH at Christmas will service over 100 families.

The Gifts: Along with donations from generous sponsors, HTH purchases gifts from retailers in Jackson, MS primarily based on the families’ needs and wishes. HTH also includes age appropriate, developmental, and educational gifts for the children in the families.
