WJTV – SMU passing game coordinator Hal Mumme will be introduced as the new football coach on campus Tuesday afternoon.

Mumme is best known for his Air Raid offense. He’s considered by many to be one of the most innovative minds in the game.

The 61-year-old is leaving SMU after just one season at the school. His Mustangs had the top-ranked passing offense in the American Athletic Conference last season but finished with a 5-7 record.

This will be Mumme’s 8th head coaching job since his first gig in 1989.

Mumme was the Kentucky coach from 1997-2001. After helping quarterback Tim Couch become a Heisman Trophy finalist, Mumme’s last season was clouded with controversy. He resigned due to numerous recruiting violations and the school received a postseason ban for those violations.

Mumme will be introduced Tuesday at the school.
