WJTV – The Callaway boys basketball team won’t be playing in the Dick’s Sporting Goods High School Nationals next month. Monday, the team decided not to pursue any further petition to the MHSAA to give the team a waiver to play in the tournament.
In order to participate, the Chargers needed to finish in the USA Today Top 25 and win their state tournament. They did both. What they needed to complete the trip was permission from the MHSAA. The association said they would not allow the trip.
There’s an MHSAA rule that says no team may play a game after their season is over.
State Senator John Horhn spoke for Callaway on the steps of the Capitol Monday to discuss the rule.
