MADISON COUNTY, Miss. – “I want to apologize to all my classmates that saw that I wish they didn’t, but it came to a certain moment that I snapped.”
A heartfelt apology from the Madison Central High School student who stripped down in the middle of class. He is speaking out about what happened. There has been a lot of speculation about just what caused him to act so erratically. The student agreed to do the interview under the conditions that WJTV News Channel 12 did not reveal his identity.
“I didn’t think anything was wrong with me,” he said.
The Madison Central senior says he’s also trying to process what happened in the classroom this week.
“It gets to a point where you just snap. I snapped completely and totally.”
The teen says he has battled depression for a while now, but didn’t know how serious it was until now.
“I’m a person and I have had my problems and that has caused me to be depressed. I am deeply depressed, but I haven’t had a chance to seek out help,” he said. “No spice, no prank. Nothing.”
“No one needed to see that,” he said. No one needed to see me naked. No one needed to see that I had a problem. I didn’t want people to see, or to know that I’m broken down inside and it has finally collapsed.”
He’s disappointed that the picture was ever taken.
“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. Plato wrote that.”
Since it happened, he hasn’t been allowed back to class. With commencement just two weeks away, he’s anxious to get back to work.
“I want to walk,” he said. “I want to be with my classmates and throw my cap in the air and move on with my life.”
