JACKSON, MS – An inmate who escaped from the Jackson Detention Center has been captured.
According the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, William Smith was found hiding in a closet at an address on 3119 Alameda Drive in south Jackson.
He was arrested without incident. Police had been searching for him after he and two other inmates got out of the jail through a faulty window. The two other escapees were captured shortly after the incident. The US Marshal task force assisted in the arrest. Information has not been released on who owns the home Smith was found in or how many people live there.
Smith was transported to the hospital to get treatment for his left ankle, which he injured when he jumped out of the window of the jail during the initial escape. After he is treated, he will be taken back into custody.
Work to repair windows at the detention center has started. Materials have come in and officials are now making assessments.
