CLINTON, Miss – Fire fighters in Clinton had a tough time putting out a house fire at a St. Thomas Parkway home Wednesday morning.
Clinton Fire chief Barry Burnside said it took crews nearly four hours to put out the flames because they had to rely on manpower to shuttle thousands of gallons of water.
He says this was because the home was in a rural area and access to fire hydrants is limited so crews have to bring in water from other areas. The chief says the city hopes to access closer hydrants as the city expands. He credits the police department for helping keep roads clear as fire fighters battled the blaze.
A relative of the fire victim tells us that the homeowner was at the golf course at the time of the fire. The homeowner tells us he thinks something was cooking on the stove when the house went up in flames.
The home was completely lost in the fire.
No injuries were reported.
