SPOKANE, Wash. – An investigation has started into what the president of the NAACP chapter in Spokane, Washington put on an official job application.
Rachel Dolezal claimed to be African American. But her parents say they’re white and so is she.
A Belhaven University graduate, Dolezal went to college and was married in Mississippi. On her Hinds County marriage certificate, her race is marked as “W” for white.
But when she applied for a position on the Citizen Police OM-Budsman Commission in Washington State, she checked a box indicating that she’s African American. Dolezel also claimed a Facebook picture of her and an African-American man is a picture of her and her father. But Larry Dolezal is the father, and her mother Ruthanne, are both Caucasian. A Montana birth certificate proves they are her real parents.
The NAACP released a statement regarding Dolezal. It reads in part:
“…Rachel Dolezal is enduring a legal issue with her family, and we respect her privacy in this matter. One’s racial identity is not a qualifying criteria or disqualifying standard for NAACP leadership.”
