Edwards police chief retiring after 39 years on force

EDWARDS, Miss. – The Edwards Police Chief is planning on retiring this week.

Chief Louis Johnson has been chief of police in Edwards for 38 of the 39 years he’s served on the police force.

He’s expected to step down as chief on Thursday.Chief Johnson will spend his time coaching and mentoring kids in the community. He currently coaches five youth basketball teams.

The 62-year-old Johnson began coaching baseball and basketball before the uniform and badge.

Mayor Marcus Wallace was one of Johnson’s ballplayers. He said it has been an honor to have him as a coach, a police chief and a fellow city official.
