RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. – The man charged in the deaths of his grandparents was denied bond in court.
Zachary Stanford appeared before Judge Kent McDaniel Thursday morning. He’s charged with two counts of capital murder.
Judge McDaniel entered a not guilty plea on behalf of Stanford.
Officials said 79-year-old Robert Faries and his wife, 77-year-old Peggy, were found dead on Tuesday inside their home on Highway 469 North in Pearl.
Stanford was stopped in Magee by police for careless driving. Police noticed he had blood on his clothes and contacted the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department.
In court, Stanford’s lawyer is requesting a mental evaluation. Judge McDaniel agreed and also ordered a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Investigator Raymond Dukes says there may be additional charges against Stanford that could go to a grand jury.
His preliminary hearing is set for July 14.
