JACKSON, MS – News channel 12 got the chance to speak with Jekalyn Carr, an 18-year-old powerhouse singer, speaker, and one of America’s most influential people according to Ebony magazine.
Miss Carr received the distinction from Ebony last year. is in town to share her gift with the Youth of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention.
She’s no stranger to traveling, speaking and singing and this summer, she’s using her national platform to encourage other people her age to seek peace during growing times of unrest.
“It doesn’t matter if you grew up not hearing it at all… but I’m telling you today you were born with purpose and there’s a plane for your life. All you have to do is tap into it, walk into it and if no one told you or have been your motivation, let me be your inspiration and motivation for you to be that successful person that you are.”
The youth concert featuring the Convention’s Youth Choir is free to the public and starts tonight at 7:00 pm. It takes place at the Jackson Convention Center.
