Ridgeland PD investigates string of car burglaries

RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) – It was a rough wake up call for some Ridgeland neighbors Wednesday morning.

Several cars were broken into, and police are looking for three suspects.

“I mean we leave our cars unlocked but we don’t leave valuables in it,” Elizabeth Brassard said. “I guess that’s a good thing. They just went rummaging through and kind of made a mess of our glove compartments and things like that.”

A cell phone case tossed on the front seat, change spilled everywhere, but nothing taken. It’s a good thing for Elizabeth Brassard. Her SUV and her husband’s car were both ransacked near Wheatley Street in Ridgeland. Lt. Brian Myers said at least 10 complaints have been filed. It started around 5:30 a.m.  Wednesday.

“We got a call from an individual who thought he witnessed an auto burglary,” Lt. Myers said. “The suspects actually fired a few shots at him after he yelled at him.”

He said the only thing of value that seems to have been stole is a gun and it could be the gun used to shot at the witness.

Brassard said her vehicles were unlocked. That seems to be the case in most, if not all, of the cases reported to Ridgeland Police.

“I mean it could have been much worse in my opinion,” she said. “It’s just frustrating that somebody was in my car going through my stuff but nobody was hurt and nobody came in the house so to me that’s kind of a positive you know things are replaceable but people are not. ”

There is no description of the suspects at this time. If you know any information that could help authorities solve this case, call Ridgeland PD.
