Prosecutor: Man given life sentence in school janitor’s stabbing death

GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) – District Attorney W. Dewayne Richardson says a Washington County man has been sentenced to life in prison for stabbing an elementary school janitor to death in the school’s parking lot.

Richardson says in a news release that prosecutors did not seek the death penalty against Kevin Boston, who was convicted Friday of capital murder in the death of 43-year-old Willie Dean III.

Dean was killed May 13, 2014 outside Susie Trigg Elementary School in Greenville.

Boston testified that he killed Dean in self-defense. Richardson says his testimony was not consistent either with other witnesses’ testimony or his own statement to police after his arrest the day Dean was killed.

A Greenville city judge dismissed the original murder charge, but a grand jury indicted Boston in January.
