NEW ORLEANS — Officials say a memorial to fallen Louisiana law enforcement officers has been vandalized in Lakeview.
The Louisiana Law Enforcement Officers Memorial announced the damages Sunday, a little over 24 hours after the funeral of Officer Vernell Brown, Jr.
Brown died five days after he was hit by a car while responding to a vehicle fire on July 12.
“We have no words to express how saddened we are and can’t express the pain this horrible act has caused, especially not even a day after we laid Officer Brown to rest. We will not allow this act to lessen or diminish the selfless sacrifice our fallen Brothers and Sisters have made.”
One of the officials with the group said the torch weighs 70 pounds, and high winds in the past from events like Hurricane Katrina didn’t push it off, leading him to believe it was deliberate vandalism that took the torch off the memorial.
If you know who may have caused these damages, call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
