Cellmate accused of killing Choctaw politician denied bond

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – A cellmate charged with murdering a Choctaw tribal member is jailed without bond.

Neshoba County Justice Court Judge Steve Cumberland denied bond Friday to Justyn Schlegel, a 34-year-old man who lives near Philadelphia.

Schlegel was charged Tuesday with murdering Rexdale Wayne Henry. The 53-year-old member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians was found dead in the Neshoba County Jail on July 14. The brother of tribal Vice Chief Ronnie Henry Sr., Rexdale Henry recently lost a race for a tribal council seat.

Cumberland says Schlegel doesn’t yet have a lawyer.

Neshoba County Sheriff Tommy Waddell tells The Meridian Star (http://bit.ly/1hbRqLF ) that Henry died of blunt force trauma.

A court clerk, after promising to send documents charging Schlegel to The Associated Press, wrote that Waddell instructed her not to.
