What you need to know for the August 4th Primary Election

(WJTV) – The Mississippi Secretary of State’s office has provided information about Tuesday’s primary elections.

For any voter who does not know where to vote, click here and use the polling place locator. The locator allows you to put in your address and search for your assigned polling place. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

There are two separate ballots for Tuesday’s election, a Democratic ballot and a Republican ballot.

You can view each sample ballot to see who is running in each race. Primary Elections are run by the parties, according to the Secretary of State’s office. That means, on Election Day, voters must choose to cast a ballot in the Democratic Primary and the Republican Primary.

All Mississippians are required to show a photo ID card at the poll.

Here is a list of acceptable IDs:

  • A driver’s license
  • A photo ID card issued by a branch, department, or entity of the State of Mississippi
  • A United States passport
  • A government employee ID card
  • A firearms license
  • A student photo ID issued by an accredited Mississippi university, college, or community/junior college
  • A United States military ID
  • A tribal photo ID
  • Any other photo ID issued by any branch, department, agency or entity of the United States government or any State government
  • A Mississippi Voter Identification Card

It’s also important to know that it is against the law for any candidate or candidate’s representative to distribute campaign literature within 150 feet of a polling location.  It’s also prohibited for anyone to show up wearing clothing with a candidate’s name and/or picture on it or other campaign paraphernalia within 150 feet of a polling location.
