Jared Fogle charged for child porn, paying for sex with minor

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Federal court documents allege that former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle obtained child pornography from a colleague over the course of four years and traveled out of state to pay for sex with minors under the age of 18.

Court documents released state that Fogle’s colleague, Russell Taylor, provided Fogle with images and videos of nude or partially clothed minors engaging in sexual explicit conduct.  Taylor is the former head of Fogle’s charitable foundation.

Federal prosecutors allege in a charging document that Fogle “made comments approving this activity and discussed some of these minors by name.”

The images were secretly produced at Taylor’s current and former homes, the documents state.

Federal investigators said Wednesday it took time to build a case against Fogle.

Some of the numbers associated with the case help explain the in-depth nature of the case.

  • 159,634 text messages analyzed by federal authorities.
  • 27,140 emails analyzed by federal authorities.
  • 47,623 images analyzed by federal authorities.
  • 3,394 video analyzed by federal authorities.
  • Search warrants were issued for: 16 smartphones, 5 basic phones, 5 mp3 players, 6 harddrives, 5 cameras, 10 flash drives, 22 DVDs, and more.

The number of victims is perhaps the most important. Federal authorities have identified 14 victims. Of those, 12 were inside of Indiana and 2 were outside of Indiana. As of 2014, 4 of those victims were adults and 10 were still minors.

These numbers also represent the investigation into Russell Taylor, the executive director of Fogle’s charitable foundation. Federal authorities say the two worked together on some of the crimes they’re accused of committing.
