Authorities: Bones found in Hinds County belong to woman; rape “not determined”

BOLTON, MS (WJTV) – The Hinds county sheriff’s office is now saying that they have not determined if the woman whose remains were found in Bolton was raped.

An investigator erroneously reported the rape findings, when in fact, the body was tied and “wrapped.”

It is unknown if the woman was sexually assaulted in any way at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.


BOLTON, Miss. (WJTV) — WJTV is learning more about the skeletal remains found in Bolton over the weekend.

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Department tells us the bones are from a young woman who could be between 30 to 50 years old. They said the person was no younger than 25 years of age.

Authorities said her body could have been there for at least six months, and that she was possibly raped. They said her hands were tied behind her back. Her clothes were found ripped.

Sheriff’s deputies are still trying to match records to determine her identity.

The remains were found at an old country store on East Cox Ferry Road on Sunday. Officials are still investigating.
