Famed horror director Wes Craven dead at 76

LOS ANGELES (AP) – One of the most recognizable names in horror films has died. Wes Craven was 76.

The prolific writer, director and editor is credited with reinventing the teen horror genre with the 1984 release of “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” starring a then-unknown Johnny Depp.

Craven’s family says he died in his Los Angeles home Sunday after battling brain cancer.
