SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Apple is expected to unveil new iPhones and other gadgets Wednesday morning during their press event in downtown San Francisco at the The Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.

KRON 4’s Gabe Slate says that Apple CEO Tim Cook may show new models of the top-selling iPhone featuring Force Touch technology built into the screen which can distinguish between a light tap and deep press. The Apple Watch was the first device to feature this.

Also, Slate has been tracking rumors about the new iPhone’s improved camera. The new smartphone may come with a 12-megapixel (rear-camera) sensor, and the rear camera is said to support video shooting in 4K resolution.

On the front side, the camera will come with a 5-megapixel sensor for selfies (and facetime), with at least 720p HD video recording.

Today’s big news isn’t expected to generate much excitement among investors. Apple’s stock has fallen over concerns that the company may not be able to duplicate sales growth it saw after introducing last year’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Apple sold more than 74 million iPhones in the first three months after it released the larger iPhone 6 and super-sized 6 Plus models in 2014.

As an upgrade to the phones, Slate says that Apple may use a different alloy combination, which is said to offer a stronger base for the volume keys and power button, the alleged weak points in both iPhone 6 models — there should be no bendgate issues which may have turned off some potential buyers.

Tech reporter Gabe Slate will be live tweeting from the Apple event which begins at 10 a.m. You can follow him @gabeslate.
