UPDATE: Authorities have released more information about the deadly shooting on Delta State University.
They said they responded to a shots fired call on the campus around 10:18 a.m. at Jobe Hall.
When they arrived on the scene, they found Dr. Ethan Schmidt in an office. He died from his injuries.
Authorities are still actively searching for the shooter. No details have been released at this time about the shooter.
Classes have been canceled for the remainder of the day. School officials said no students were involved in the shooting.
UPDATE: The name of the professor who was shot and killed at Delta State University has been released.
A Bolivar County deputy coroner said Dr. Ethan Schmidt, an associate professor at the school, was shot in the head, possibly multiple times.
Schmidt’s bio on the school’s website says he taught American History.
Delta State University tweeted that one person has died after they said there is an active shooter on campus.
The deputy coroner tell us the victim is a professor at the university.
His name has not been released.
The campus is still on lockdown. Mississippi Highway Patrol, Cleveland Police, and the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department are on campus. The school also tweeted that the Emergency Management Agency has set up a command center. The Governor’s office and the Institution for Higher Learning have offered assistance.

CLEVELAND, Miss. (WJTV) — Delta State University tweeted Monday morning that there is an active shooter on campus.
The tweet said the shooter was spotted near Jobe Hall.
According to the Bolivar Commercial, one person has been shot.
Students have been asked to take shelter by school officials.
