JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — The United States Department of Justice is now forcing Hinds County to make necessary changes to its jail.
The DOJ proposed a settlement agreement in the report, sent to Hinds County officials. The new report is 57 pages and is basically a blueprint laid out for the county to fix its jails.
According to Hinds County Supervisor Robert Graham, this is a consent decree forcing the county to hire and train officers and make physical improvements to the crumbling Raymond Detention Center.
Graham says for about six months, the county has been working on these improvements.
Just this year there have been multiple escapes and a couple of jail disturbances at county jails.
