Two hurt after deputy-involved crash in Copiah County

Two people are hurt after an accident involving a Copiah County Sheriff’s Deputy.

It happened around midnight Thursday along Monticello Street.

Officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol tell us the deputy was heading west on Monticello when he was hit by a Chevrolet Impala.

We’re told the driver of that Impala was making a left turn onto Monticello from Hansen Street. The deputy’s patrol car went off the road and hit a tree.Copiah Deputy Injured in Crash

The deputy’s foot was broken during the crash, according to MHP. The driver of the Chevrolet was also injured. We’re told both drivers were taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson to be treated.

According to MHP, charges may be filed against the driver of that Impala depending on the results of a lab test.

The accident is under investigation.
