Trailer Fire Causes Delays on I-55 in Copiah County

UPDATE: Traffic is now flowing again on I-55 North in Copiah County.


 

Copiah County, MS – Firefighters responded to the scene of a trailer fire on I-55 in Copiah County early Monday morning.

It happened just before 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Tower Road.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, a rear tire on an 18-wheeler blew out and sparked a fire.

We’re told the driver was able to unhook the cab from the trailer. He was not injured.

MHP said the owner of the 18-wheeler is Perkins Service, which is located in Springfield, Ohio. We’re told the vehicle was carrying rubber material.

Traffic on the right lane of I-55 N. was blocked.

Officials said clean up could last until the afternoon.
