JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A convenience store employee is beaten and shot, and Jackson Police are looking for the people responsible.
Sunday night around 9 p.m., a man went into P & R Food Store to buy a cigar. According to employees at the store, the man accused the clerk of not giving him the correct change and after a heated exchange the man was forced to leave.
Surveillance video shows the man returning with several others ready to fight.
“Three cars one, two…and one on the other side–five or six people,” Store Manager, Amarjid said.
For Jessie Simpson it was like any other night at work, until his coworker was beaten by men in front of the store.
“They came from behind and hit him, and that’s when they started jumping on him, ” P & R employee Jessie Simpson said.
Simpson used the store owner’s gun to fire warning shots.
“That’s when I shot off two shots, and that’s when they shot back and hit him in the leg,” Simpson said.
His co-worker was shot in the leg, but he is expected to be okay.
Simpson thinks things would have been worse if he didn’t act quickly.
“They could have killed him and I’m glad I saved a life,” Simpson explained.
The store’s manager says he’s never seen anything like this since his store opened a year ago, but for him this is a lesson learned.
“I learned that people are crazy,” Amarjid said.
