Adams County, Miss. (WJTV) – A traffic stop in Adams County leads to the recovery of a stolen gun and lands three people in jail.
Adams County authorities said they were patrolling on Monday, October 12th, when they saw an individual who had an active warrant for contempt of court out of Natchez. That person was identified as Anthony Haywood, 30. Deputies pulled him over on the corner of MLK Street and Main Street.
According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, authorities from the Natchez Police Department arrived to the scene and took Anthony Haywood into custody. During the arrest, authorities said Haywood told them he had a gun in his pants. Deputies searched him and found the gun.
There was another man in the car with Anthony Haywood during the time he was pulled over. That man has been identified as James Marsaw, 29. Authorities asked him to step out of the vehicle, so they could search it.
When authorities searched the vehicle, they found a black handgun under the passenger’s seat. When authorities ran the serial number of that gun, they found out it had been stolen. Marsaw was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Inside the car, authorities also found a loaded short rifle on the back seat.
While Anthony Haywood was being taken into custody, his mother, Lisa Haywood, 46, showed up to the scene, according to officials with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Lisa Haywood tried to approach his vehicle several times, but they told her to back away from the scene. When she wouldn’t leave, authorities arrested her for failure to comply/disorderly conduct.
