Smith County woman escapes kidnapper; suspect still at large

SMITH COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) — Smith County authorities are looking for a suspect who kidnapped a woman.

We’re told by officials that the victim was at her Taylorsville home alone when she heard a noise at the back of her house. A black man kidnapped her at gunpoint and forced her into her car. Officials said they drove to Magee where the suspect made her withdraw money from an ATM.

The victim was able to escape in Covington County. She went to a church where people were inside cleaning and called the Covington County Sheriff’s Department around 7 p.m.

Authorities said they went after the suspect in a high-speed chase in Brookhaven, but he managed to get away around 1 a.m.

The suspect is described as 5’7 or 5′ 8″. He is clean shaven with a bald head. Authorities think he is still driving the victim’s gold 2013 Chevy Cruz. The car has a Wayne County tag with the license plate number of WYP-085.
