JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Raines Elementary is encouraging students to “stay away” from drugs.
It’s all of part of Red Ribbon Week at the school.
Victor Mason, a candidate for Hinds County Sheriff, was a guest speaker at an event.
Red Ribbon is an alcohol, tobacco, drug, and violence prevention awareness campaign that is observed every year across the United States.
The principal of Raines Elementary said the following about the annual week:
“By having Victor Mason come in and speak to about his experience growing up in the community of Jackson. I think it just gives students a real world connection, in order to see someone from their community be positive and be effective and to just give them examples of the possibilities of what they can be,” Dina Owens, principal of Raines Elementary, said.
Raines Elementary will be participating in Red Ribbon Week for the remainder of the week.
