LEFLORE COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) — A former Itta Bena city clerk is arrested for embezzlement.
LaCheronda Spivey will also have to pay back more than $149,000.
According to the state auditor’s office, Spivey took funds from the light, water, and sewer accounts from 2010 up until last year.
She was indicted for the charge by a grand jury.
“My office will continue to take down individuals who choose to steal money from hard-working taxpayers,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “We will continue to pursue prosecution and aggressively work to return the funds back to the citizens of Itta Bena.”
Spivey was the deputy city clerk of Itta Bena from 1999-2011. She became the City Clerk in 2011 until her resignation in 2014.
