HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WJTV) — The club where a man was shot over the weekend in the Pine Belt is closing.
According to Lt. Jon Traxler of Hattiesburg Police, the district attorney’s office gathered enough evidence to present to a judge to have a temporary restraining order put on Club Memories for it to be shut down.
Lt. Traxler said the crime unit went to the club Thursday to lock its doors. It will remain closed until a hearing is held. The owners will then have a chance to present their case and explain why their business should stay open.
Several community members voiced their concerns after 36-year-old Kenneth Smith was shot on December 6. He died from his injuries at the hospital. Four people have been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting.
Traxler said that back in July, a Collins football player, Jabarri Goudy, was shot and killed outside of the club as well.
He also mentioned that Club Hi Hat that was shut down for similar reasons.
