JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — The National Football League is giving back to Jackson Public Schools.

The NFL gave Lanier High School a $6,500 grant.

We’re told that the NFL gives grants to grants to football programs in honor of league players who support those programs.

JPS tells us that former Atlanta Falcons player and JSU student Sylvester Stamps is on the coaching staff at Lanier. Stamps played in the NFL for six years. Five of those years he was a running back for the Falcons.

“We commend Lanier Bulldogs Coach Curtis Stapleton on his leadership and sincerely thank Coach Stamps for his work with our student-athletes and making this grant opportunity possible,” said Clinton Johnson, Executive Director of Athletics for Jackson Public Schools.

Sherwin Johnson of JPS said the money will go towards buying equipment, field items, and other things for the program.
