JSU hires Tony Hughes as the new head football coach.

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Jackson State University has named Tony Hughes as the new head football coach.

The school held a press conference Monday morning to make the announcement.

Hughes comes to JSU from Mississippi State University. He worked there as the assistant head coach. Hughes said he is looking forward to the upcoming season with the Tigers.

“Winning championships at Jackson State is expected,” he said. “So we expect to win championships. And like I said earlier I don’t have a magic wand, but at the same time, I do know hard work. I do know discipline. I do know toughness. And that’s what I want my players to be every single day.”

Former JSU Head Football Coach Harold Jackson was fired during the season in October.
