Child, 2 others dead in Mississippi after tornado, storms

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss (WREG) – A 7-year-old boy has died during the tornado on Highway 7 South in Holly Springs, city officials in Holly Springs confirmed.

Two deaths have also been confirmed in Benton County, one on County Church Road and one on Hamilton Road, the Benton County sheriff confirmed.

Multiple people are injured and many homes have been damaged in Mississippi due to severe weather and tornadoes, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

MEMA reported at least two people were injured in Panola County, and Coahoma County emergency crews said at least two people there were critically injured.

Search and rescue crews are working in Marshall County.

Mississippi Highway 5 and Highway 7 are both closed. Mississippi Highway 315 between Sledge and Sardis is also blocked to allow crews to remove storm debris.
