New judge appointed to Mississippi Supreme Court

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A new judge has been appointed to the Mississippi Supreme Court.

Mississippi Court of Appeals Judge James D. Maxwell II’s appointment will begin January 1, 2016.

He will replace former Justice David Chandler. Governor Phil Bryant recently appointed Chandler as the Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Family and Children’s Services.

Maxwell will represent District 3 in the Supreme Court, which includes Northeast Mississippi and most of Northwest Mississippi.

The seat will be on the ballot in November 2016.
