QUITMAN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Quitman County was one of the first northern Mississippi areas to be hit by tornadoes.
One man in Quitman County survived Wednesday’s tornadoes despite his home being destroyed
That man walked away without a scratch because he was hiding … in this bathtub.
“I parked my truck, I came through the utility. I came right through there before all that stuff was down obviously and I come through here. I got in the bathtub.”
WJTV’s Malary Pullen asks, “And all this was on top of you.”
“Yes ma’am it all came on top of me.”
Chantz Gammill is lucky to be alive.
“Was there a point where you thought, ‘I’m going to die?’ ” Pullen asks.
“I was trying to find some stuff to hold on to just in case it tried to take me up. It crossed my mind but if it’s your time to go it’s your time to go,” Gammill said.
“It wasn’t your time to go?” Pullen asks
“I guess not,” Gammill said
Not much is left of his Quitman County home. His truck is damaged and the Christmas tree now in a pile of debris.
“I was praying. I mean everything goes through your head it was crazy,” Gammill said.
While everything is gone, everyone in Chantz’s family is safe.
“At least, we all get to celebrate Christmas,” Gammill said.
