Jackson, MS (WJTV) – The University of Mississippi Medical center welcomes the first baby born at the hospital in 2016.
“I just thank God for the staff that was here last night. They got me through it,” said La’Teshia Wesley, little Ja-Nya’s mom.
La’Teshia Wesley says she expected Ja-Nya to come in late December, but the little one had other plans.
“I came in yesterday afternoon, and they induced me. It started working, and I had a natural birth. Everything went well,” said Wesley.
As the beautiful baby girl entered the world, she had lots of family members waiting to meet her – including her father, Craig Wesley and siblings Ja-Naria, 9, and Ja-Rico, 6.
Her mother says this is a special time of year for her family.
“My birthday was Dec. 26, and my older daughter’s is Jan. 5. My wedding anniversary is Jan. 5,” La’Teshia Wesley said.
She continued on to say the baby couldn’t get here fast enough for her big sister Ja-Naria.
“There’s so much excitement,” Wesley said. “Every time I went to the doctor for a checkup or an ultrasound, she thought I’d come home with a baby. I told her, ‘No, baby. We’ve got to do the countdown.’”
The stay-at-home mom says she plans to get out of the house soon to go back to school to be become a certified nursing assistant.
