JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — State Senator Terry Burton was elected to serve as Senate President Pro Tempore.
The Senate voted unanimously on Monday.
He will preside over the Senate in the absences of Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and he will serve as the chairman of the Rules Commitee.
“I have been privileged to represent District 31 in this esteemed body, and I am honored to be chosen by my colleagues to this position,” Sen. Burton said. “Together, the state Senate will continue to represent the interests of Mississippians and work toward building a prosperous future.”
Sen. Burton and his wife live in Newton. They have two children, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
