JSU’s Tony Hughes names Chad Germany as offensive coordinator and John Hendrick as defensive coordinator

JSU hires Tony Hughes as the new head football coach.

WJTV – Jackson State announced the hiring of Chad Germany as offensive coordinator and John Hendrick as defensive coordinator on Tuesday.

Germany, who will also serve as the quarterbacks coach, comes from Southern University. He spent four seasons at the school, serving as co-offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and quarterbacks coach. In 2015, the Jaguars ranked fourth in the SWAC in total offense and scoring offense. They also had seven offensive players named to All-SWAC teams.

Jackson State ranked fifth in the SWAC in total offense with 374.3 yards per game and seventh in the conference in scoring offense with 22.9 points per game in 2015. That put the Tigers at 80th in FCS in scoring offense and 64th in total offense.

Hendrick, who will also serve as the linebackers coach, brings more than thirty years of coaching and playing experience. He was last a defensive line and special teams coach at Alabama State. Hendrick has also coached at Mississippi State, LSU, Texas A&M, Tulane, South Florida, Arkansas Pine-Bluff, and South Carolina State. He was an all-conference defensive lineman twice for the Pittsburgh Panthers from 1979-1981.

“John Hendrick is a talented defensive-minded coach,” JSU head coach Tony Hughes said in a release. “He has excellent knowledge of the SWAC and football in general.”

Hendrick has improving to do on the defensive side of the ball for the Tigers. JSU gave up 34.4 points per game, which ranked seventh in the SWAC and 98th in FCS. The team gave up a single-season program record of 378 points in 2015.
