PORT GIBSON, Miss. (WJTV) — People in Port Gibson are complaining about the quality of water and hike in water rates. People voiced their concerns at a City Hall meeting Monday.
Residents said they are forced to buy bottles of water to do everyday tasks.
“To the city they are going to have to do better,” said Johnny Carpenter, a concerned resident.” We can’t afford it and if we got to pay high prices at least give us good service that’s all we ask. If we are going to pay for it give us what we pay for.”
A city aldermwoman told WJTV that the city received a loan to fix the water from the State Health Department and in order to pay back that loan, they had to raise some utility prices, it this case, the water rates.
