Delta, LA (WJTV) – It’s all in the numbers, whether you’re picking your own or letting the computer do it for you. Sales of Powerball tickets have surged. The jackpot is now up to half a billion dollars. The cash value is $306 million.
Tickets aren’t for sale in Mississippi but the prize is enough to make people drive over to Louisiana. Charles Johnson of Jackson made the trip to Delta, Louisiana Wednesday afternoon. He says, “For $400 million everybody should come try it.” When asked what he would do with the money, Johnson told WJTV, “I would give the church some money and take care of my family.”
There has not been a Powerball winner in more than 2 months, leading to the big numbers for this drawing. Sonya Minter manages Delta Daiquiri and sells lottery tickets. She and her staff started work at 10 am. When asked how she deals with the long lines, Minter said, “Got to be patient. Got to just not let them aggravate you.”
Experts say 70-80% of all winning Powerball jackpots have been won by tickets chosen by the computer.
Ruby Callahan of Vicksburg says if she wins the big prize, she’ll give the money to charity and churches, “I’m buying (counting) 6 tickets. 12 disciples. 12 tickets.”
