RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The judges of the Rankin County Justice Court says they have a program that will help criminal defendants avoid jail.

The “Plan to Avoid Jail” will allow criminal defendants to avoid jail if the following occurred:

(a) An arrest warrant has been issued for contempt for the defendant’s failure to make timely payments to Rankin County Justice Court; and

(b) Before the defendant is arrested, he/she voluntarily appears at Rankin County Justice Court during the hours of 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; and

(c) The defendant pays (25%) of the amount due; and

(d) The defendant pays at least $50 per month on the remaining balance.

The program begins January 19, 2016 and ends March 31, 2016.

If you believe you qualify, call (601) 824-2665 after January 13.

Please note that constables are actively executing arrest warrants and this plan is only available if you appear before being arrested.
