MDOC supervisor attacked by inmate with broom handle

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV)  – A correctional supervisor suffered multiple, serious injuries when an inmate attacked her at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman earlier this week.

Lieutenant Clarissa Williams was attacked with a broom handle in an open dorm area of Unit 26 Tuesday morning while she was performing her duties.

Clarence Jones, 26, is accused of the attack.

Jones is currently serving a 16-year sentence, with four years’ probation, for aggravated assault domestic violence in Warren County.

He is now being charged with aggravated assault.

Williams was treated at the prison and later at the Bolivar Medical Center. She has been with the agency since 1997.

She will be off work for an extended period due to her injuries.

The attack is under investigation.

Last year in 2015, 50 MDOC officers were assaulted on the job. Most of the officers are still recovering.
