UPDATE: Part of Highway 80 between Morton, Pelahatchie reopened from flooding

UPDATE: MDOT said the eastbound lanes of US 80 have been opened near MS 43 and MS 13 in Rankin County. There is still water on the roadway. Drivers still need to use caution.

Scott County, Miss. (WJTV) – Right now, a portion of Highway 80 between Morton and Pelahatchie is closed.

Heavy rains overnight caused major flooding along that road.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation has blocked that highway to keep everyone safe.

Crews on scene tell us an 18-wheeler driver tried to drive down Highway 80 Wednesday morning and couldn’t get through because of flooding. That driver notified authorities about the problem.

We’ve got a crew near Morton Rankin County Line Road. That crew is monitoring the situation, and they’ll bring you updates as soon as the road is clear.
