FLOWOOD, Miss. (WJTV) — A recent fire in Flowood has the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality concerned that blue dye could be on its way into the Pearl River.

We’re told the dye could be harmful to plant and animals. It’s been spotted up to a mile and a half away from a large industrial fire that happened late last month.

Officials said nearly 2,000 gallons of the chemicals leaked out into the nearby areas.

Contractors were brought in to remove the chemicals and blue dye from a ditch that leads to the river.

Officials are urging folks not to touch that water.

All this started last Thursday when a Flowood business went up in flames. You could see the smoke from MUD Predators ATV billowing into the air that day.

No one was hurt during the fire and the cause is still under investigation.
