JACKSON, Miss (WJTV) – Dozens of animal lovers spent the day on the steps of the state capitol bringing attention to the issues facing pets.
It was part of a statewide effort to let people know that animal cruelty is a local issue.
The mission of the rally was to increase public awareness, let law enforcement communities know that the group supports them enforcing animal cruelty laws, and let the lawmakers know they want tougher laws.
“We have animal cruelty where people are starving their animals to death. and sometimes for our rescue community and our law enforcement community we see that stuff every day sometimes. and so it’s not something that’s happening somewhere else. it is something that’s happening right here in our state,” Michelle Lombas, an animal rights activist, said.
The group would like to see stricter laws passed during this legislative session.
