SIMPSON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) — The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is still working to clean up an oil spill in Simpson County.
The cleanup is taking place south of Magee on Highway 28 East.
We’re told that an eight-inch pipeline was damaged by a tree from Monday’s storm.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality tells WJTV that about 50 barrels of oil spilled. Officials said one barrel holds about 42 gallons. They said they’ve found the source of the leak and no oil has spilled into the creek since Tuesday.
They expect to have the oil cleaned up by Sunday, if the weather permits.
Officials said no homes are in danger.
