Jackson Police Officer shot at Edgewood Terrace Apartments

Jackson Police officer grazed by bullet.

JACKSON, Miss —  Jackson Police are investigating a shooting where an officer was injured. The shooter is still on the loose.

Around 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, police say they were called to an armed robbery at the Edgewood Terrace Apartments on Edgewood Terrace Drive.

When Officer Abe Gines arrived on the scene, the suspect started shooting. The officer was grazed by a bullet in the side. The suspect escaped through a window.

Even after being shot, Gines chased the suspect. We’re told the suspect ran into a creek behind the apartment complex and the officer lost sight of him.

Gines, an 8-year veteran, was taken to the hospital. We’re told he has been released.

Around 8 a.m., police got a call about someone changing clothes in a neighborhood near Northside Drive. Police had that area blocked off for a couple of hours.

Hinds County deputies and Mississippi Highway Patrol were assisting in the suspect search.
