JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Emergency crews and law enforcement officers have been responding to scenes where cars were stuck in floodwaters throughout Thursday afternoon.
Around 3 p.m., a driver was passing on Mayes Street when his car stopped in the water and shut off.
The driver tells WJTV that he knew there was a dip in the road, but he had no clue just how deep the water was. He said water started coming into his car.
A Jackson fire unit told us that responded to three incidents in one hour similar to this.
Over on Industrial Road, a similar scene — a car surrounded by water–stalled.
Several cars in these flooded areas stopped, and even turned around — others testing their luck, riding through the high water.
In some neighborhoods the rain even threatened homes.
“With the rain coming we always watch real close because we, because we’ve been flooded every other year since 2002,” Robbie Woodruff said.
