Flash Flooding in Jackson Metro
JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is warning residents about flooding across the state.
Several northern counties have reported flooded homes and roads.
In the Metro area, there were several reports of flooding on numerous streets. Water has also been rising in some communities.
Flowood Police said some streets have been closed due to flooding:
- Flowood Drive from Airport Road to Liberty Road,
- Foxhall Road from Flowood City Limits to Airport Road,
- Manship Road from Grants Ferry Road to Hugh Ward Boulevard.
In Clinton, police blocked off Springridge Road between Willowbrook and McRaven roads near Baker’s Creek. We’re told that detour signs have been posted in the area.
In Pearl, there are high flood waters near Eastgate Village.
The City of Jackson said they are placing barricades on streets were flooding has occurred. Residents are asked to call the city’s action line, 601-960-1111, to report flooded streets.
MEMA Officials said some areas in the Mississippi Delta have received up to six inches of rain in the last 24 hours. Areas along I-55 North and South of Vicksburg down to the Gulf Coast could see two to five inches of rainfall and areas east of I-55 and north of Hattiesburg could see up to one to three inches.
Anytime a road is flooded, drivers are asked to turn around.
